Ending Needless Blindness in Africa.
Mission: Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation was founded in July 2009 with a simple mandate "Eradicating Needless Blindness in Africa" by reaching out and providing compassionate, quality, affordable, patient centered care.
Vision: A world where nobody is needlessly blind. Eradicating avoidable blindness from all corners of the world. To build a team of dedicated eye care professionals, working in the best eye hospital in Nigeria.
Our co-founders are committed and dedicated to a life of service to the peoples of the rivers in the Niger-delta regions of Nigeria. Our pledge and goal is to eradicate cataract blindness in the Niger-delta of Nigeria.
"To know these folk who do not have much and do not ask for too much, like we have come to do all this 15 years of travelling to serve with them, is to love them unconditionally".
The Eye Hospital, GRA, Benin city is our base hospital. We invest in the latest medical technology to provide our patients with the most advanced and effective treatments available.
The Foundations outreach activities is supported at the following locations:

Bilateral cataract blindness accounts for about 50% of all cases of avoidable blindness in our local communities in Nigeria. Blindness is a tough predicament particularly in resource scarce communities. To be blind in our rural communities in Africa sure and certain poverty with all its attendant consequences. Targeting cataract blindness improves the overall economic outlook of local communities by making the hitherto blind "income earners again". Our expert medical staff are committed to providing the highest level of care to our patients. With years of experience and training, they use the latest techniques and technologies to ensure the best outcomes possible outcomes.
Our community/patient-centred approach to healthcare ensures that each patient receives personalized attention and care. We believe in working closely with our patients in their communities to develop a treatment plan tailored to their specific peculiarity and needs. Glaucoma accounts for about 13% of all avoidable blindness in our communities second only to cataract blindness. However glaucoma blindness occupies "special status" because any resulting blindness can not be reversed as is possibly in the case with cataracts.
The approach we have adopted is education of the people during outreaches explaining the disease, consequences of inadequate treatment and a clear prescription of the treatment modalities available. For the rural- riverine dwellers we advocate surgery because of the fear of non compliance with prescribed eye drops that are not readily available.

We are truly appreciative of the international support from Imani Bridges Inc USA. Time has gone by so quickly, its 10 years of unbroken and dedicated service. thankfully we have established a modern surgical theatre in our Badagry facility for our annual surgical eyecamp. there was a time in the first couple of years that we operated inside the vestry of the Anglican Cathedral, Badagry. we owe all we have been able to achieve in Badagry to the Bishop J. Adeyemi, the church and the people of Badagry. Thank you for letting us serve you.

With our local partner we believe that every patient deserves personalized and compassionate care. We take a patient-centered approach to healthcare, focusing on the unique needs and concerns of each individual patient. Recognizing that our intervention during the 50th anniversary celebrations of the research institute was oversubscribed management decided we undertake a second surgical eye camp to ensure that no-one who is blind from cataracts in their host communities be left behind unattended to.
